Can you imagine the endless possibilities of garden design and landscaping in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset, by creating bespoke spaces using light transmitting concrete, also known as translucent concrete, with in your landscape gardens or homes.
The material is truly diverse and can be implemented in a variety of ways, architectural uses included tiles, room dividers and wall cladding. The fibre optics run parallel to one another, transmitting light between the two surfaces of the concrete element in which they are embedded.
The thickness of the fibre optics may be varied between 2 µm and 2mm to suit the particular requirements of light transmission. The optical fibres transmit light so effectively that there is virtually no loss of light conducted through the fibres, in fact its possible to transmit coloured lighting through the concrete too!
Translucent concrete achieves its maximum effect in an internal or external environment with a high degree of light contrast in a dimly lite room or any area of your garden.
Just imagine a focal point brought to life with the sun by day and back-lit with subtle lighting and plants dancing with the soft winds by night or a tall lighting system within any area of your garden, which would be the talking point of any occasion.
The concrete mix is made from fine materials only and contains no course aggregates. The compressive strength of greater than 70 MPa (over 10,000 psi) is comparable to that of high-strength concretes, at present the elements for structural applications have not as yet been produced, I'm personally confident that it wont be a long wait.
As more and more people in Devon and Cornwall see the potential of translucent concrete within the garden and home, translucent concrete will become more and more visible.
Should you require details, on translucent concrete structure, floor panels, lighting columns, wall cladding, we would be happy to discuss your options of translucent concrete within your garden.
